College of Communication: Fully equipped studios and laboratories, with the latest international media technologies


The inauguration of the building of the College of Communication was a dream of all media students at Al Qasimia University as they used to study in regular classrooms theoretically. Their dream has now become a tangible reality. Establishing the College building with all the equipment was by the support and care of His Highness Sheikh Dr. / Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Council Al-Ali, Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah, Founder of Al-Qasimia University. This building is an architectural masterpiece equipped with the latest technology.

Since the establishment of its new building, the College of Communication has witnessed great developments in terms of its educational programs and training workshops, and has become a media training landmark that shines in the heart of Sharjah. It is filled with multi-national students who are talented and have distinguished media presence keen to study media arts and skills.
The radio and television studios at the College of Communication are equipped with the latest digital technologies in the field of audiovisual production, in line with the latest systems used in satellite channels and Arab and international radio stations. This enables students to access the world of media reality and deal professionally with its new tools through advanced, easy-to-use technologies that meet media training requirements for mass communication students.

The TV studio is equipped with the latest television imaging, montage and audio equipment, and it has three high-quality Sony TV cameras equipped with a crane for filming TV interviews, and even full filming with green background technology “chroma”, in addition to all audio and sound equipment and two Autocue reading devices that enable the broadcaster to read the text of news bulletins and programmes easily.

The main control room is connected to the plateau room through a glass insulator that helps the director and the team to follow what is going on in reality throughout the display screens, in addition to a Black Magic switcher control unit linked to a telephone communication unit that enables making and arranging external calls to the studio.

The studio also includes an integrated system for talk back system to enable the director to give instructions to his assistants, cameramen and the rest of the work team, as well as a Sound Mixer unit, and a C.G Operator for designing various titles and breaking news, and in addition to the camera control unit (CCU), additional camera control panel is available, lighting adjustment, color temperature, and other basic things that need to be controlled inside the studios.

And in line with equipping the studios with an integrated lighting network, the Dimmer lighting control unit is adopted to operate the lighting searchlights and their settings inside the panel, in a manner that matches the decoration and the setting whether for talk shows, news programs or others.

The studios of the College of Communication open their doors to serve talented students within the university to record the Holy Qur’an and interactive lectures for all university faculties and the Language Center, as well as serving governmental and media institutions and various civil society institutions, to produce various programs and implement workshops and training courses.
The studio also includes a number of support rooms, including the engineering control room, the server room, make-up rooms, rest and waiting rooms, and changing clothes room, in addition to post-production rooms.
 
Radio Studios:
The College of Communication has in its two campuses, whether for male or female students, (2) radio studios equipped with the latest radio technologies. The first of which is: a professional radio studio divided into two rooms: the first one is the studio room. It includes a clock to monitor the timing, microphones, warning signs and seating for more than 4 Guests with the presenter. The control room is equipped with the latest recording equipment, mixing table, and a touch-screen sound mixer control unit.
There is also a solo radio studio to train students on radio presentation and production of integrated news and talk programs without the need for a sound engineer, as the studio contains one compact room that includes a control unit and radio montage, equipped with high-tech equipment comparable to radio stations that rely on FM radio waves.

Computer Labs:
The College of Communication includes two computer laboratories, each with a capacity of 27 Apple Macs. The College also includes two other Windows desktop computer laboratories, and each laboratory consists of 22 devices equipped with headphones.
Apple Mac devices are used in media training in designing news websites, electronic publishing, montage, and various graphic design works through learning on a package of Adobe programs, on top of which are Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, etc., as well as Programming languages used in design such as HTML and JavaScript.

The work of the laboratory is based on training students in practical courses and graduation projects in the field of journalism and public relations, designing advertisements and public relations publications, through training on the indesign program for designing newspaper pages and desktop publishing. Students from radio and television students also benefit from the computer laboratory in training on production of animation, multimedia programmes, editing of television and radio programmes, and digital photography courses; to edit photos in a professional way.


Press Equipment Unit:
The College of Communication includes press production equipment for student training, supported by desktop publishing programs for designing publications. Students are trained in design and press production programs such as Photoshop, InDesign and desktop publisher. Students are also trained in how to edit news and rephrase it through a team. In order to review the news, the Press Equipment Unit prepares (Etisal Al-Qasimia Newspaper) through the participation of students in editing its news and its various press materials, including investigations and press interviews, and training them on how to write press articles.






Photography and Digital Production Unit:
The college has (2) photography studios, and they are equipped with a number of digital TV and journalist cameras, including: Canon 5D cameras with various lenses and Canon XF705 Pro Camcorder cameras for recording video in 4k quality, used in student training in photography arts, and various shooting angles. This is so in order for the student to be qualified to capture the best appropriate media angles to deal with the journalistic issue competently, and to provide high-quality images. This unit also trains students to produce and film various programs and television reports for Al-Qasimia Communication Channel.
