Al Qasimia University Library is a comprehensive knowledge hub that contributes to enriching the academic experience of the university’s faculty members, researchers, and students. It also provides access to a wide range of print and electronic resources that support academic programs and meet the requirements of scientific research. The library is committed to all local legislations and international agreements related to intellectual property rights, with Federal Decree No. (38) of 2021 concerning Copyrights and related Rights serving as the foundation upon which the library’s intellectual property protection policy is based.

This decree covers all types of works in their various forms and categories, including the following:

1- Books, brochures, articles, and other written Works.

2- Smart applications, computer programs and applications, databases, and similar Works determined by a decision of the Minister.

3- Lectures, speeches, oral and written sermons and other Works of a similar nature.

4- Theatrical Works, musical shows, and pantomime.

5- Musical Works, either with or without words.

6- Audio, visual, or audio-visual Works.

7- Architectural Works, and engineering drawings and plans.

8- Works of drawing with lines or colours, sculpting, engraving, and printing on stone, fabrics, wood, or metals, and any other similar Works.

9- Works of photography and similar Works.

10- Works of applied and plastic arts.

11- Illustrations, geographical maps, sketches, and three-dimensional Works related to geography, topography, architecture, and others.

12- Derivative Works, without prejudice to the protection granted to the original Works from which these Works were derived.

Protection shall cover the title of the work, if innovative, as well as the written innovative broadcast program.

1. Printed Resources:

1.1 Photocopying or reproduction “Federal Decree-Law no. (38) of 2021, on copyrights and related rights”

The Law of copyright and related rights has defined in Article No. (22) Restrictions and exceptions

All libraries and non-profit educational institutions have been excluded from this Act, under the condition that photocopied sources are used for the sole purposes of scientific research, studying and learning. The limits justified for this purpose are subject to the following conditions:

Reproducing brief extracts of a Work in the form of manuscripts or sound, visual, or audio-visual recordings, for cultural or religious education, or vocational training provided that Reproduction is made within reasonable limits and does not go beyond the purpose thereof, that mention is made of the name of the Author and the title of the work, whenever possible, that the reproducer does not directly or indirectly seek profit.

It isn't allowed to photocopy more than one chapter from a book or separate parts of a book provided that the reproduced pages do not exceed 10% of the total book.

Citations of short paragraphs, excerpts, or analyses, within the customary limits of the work, for the purpose of criticism, discussion, or information, with mention of the source and name of the Author.

1.2 Photocopying or reproduction by a library or The National Archives “Federal Decree-Law no. (38) of 2021, on copyrights and related rights”

Photocopying a single copy of the work by the national archive, library, or documentation centers, as long as that does not gain any profit, whether directly or indirectly, as follows:​

If the Reproduction is made for the purpose of preserving the original copy or of an original which is lost, damaged, or unusable, if it has become impossible to obtain a replacement thereof under reasonable conditions.

If the purpose of the Reproduction is to respond to a request made by a physical person who wishes to use it for a study or research, provided that the Reproduction is made just once or on separate occasions.

2. Non-printed / E-Resources:

All non-printed and E-resources are subject to terms and conditions of the contractual licensing agreements to access, use and reproduce these resources, only for scientific research, study and learning purposes.

Making one single copy of the computer program or applications or databases, with the knowledge of the legitimate possessor thereof. Such person may alone make extracts thereof provided that they fall within the licensed purpose or for the purpose of saving or replacement in case the original copy is lost, damaged or becomes unfit for use; and on condition that the backup or extracted copy

be destroyed, even if downloaded or stored in the computer hardware, once there is no more reason for keeping the original copy.

The policy is binding on all users and researchers in the UKF library and is regularly updated and amended to ensure continued compliance with the highest standards for intellectual property rights, in line with relevant national legislation.​
