About the College

​​​The College of Economics and Management (CEM) was established in 2017​​ shortly after Al-Qasimia University began operations in 2015. The Department of Economics at CEM is committed to comprehensive study of economics, with an emphasis on its theoretical underpinnings, practical applications, historical importance, and worldwide relevance.

The Department of Economics is dedicated to the science of economics and its critical role in creating economic policy, encouraging development, and contributing to a better understanding of global economic dynamics. In keeping with Al Qasimia University's overarching mission, vision, and objectives, the Department places a strong emphasis on a wide variety of specialized courses, not limited to but including, microeconomics, macroeconomics, Islamic economics, international economics, econometrics, labour economics, monetary economics, economics of development, economics of public finance, financial economics, managerial economics and industrial organisation economics and history of economic thought, each of which explores different aspects of economic theory, policy, and practise.

Our primary objective is to educate and empower students to become highly qualified economists who are well-versed in the subtleties of economic theory, skilled at empirical analysis, and have a comprehensive awareness of economic history and international views. We aspire to develop students who not only have the desire to acquire scientific knowledge but also develop incisive analytical and problem-solving abilities, allowing them to participate in informed policy discussions and contribute to society's progress.

The Department of Economics has been providing a comprehensive academic programme involving a Bachelor of Economics degree since its inception. This programme aims to find a balance between academic rigour and practical application, equipping graduates to flourish in a variety of professional choices. Our graduates are prepared to analyse economic issues, conduct thorough research, and make sound judgements that promote economic progress.

The Department of Economics at CEM is committed to academic quality, intellectual research, community service and a global perspective. We are committed to molding our graduating students so that they are not only well-prepared for the  challenges of today's economic world, but who also have a strong awareness for the global, cultural variety, and the principles of Islam in imparting moderation and justice.
