While the celebrations marking the declaration of Sharjah as the Muslim Capital for 2014 were in progress, other major achievements were registered simultaneously. A number of architectural projects have been finalized, adding to the grandeur and splendor of the Emirate, and enriching the Islamic flavor that provides it with a unique status among Arab countries. All this emanates from the sagacious directives of HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH DR. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED ALQASIMI, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah and President of Al Qasimia University, who has vowed to transform the Emirate of Sharjah into a shining beacon of knowledge and culture, conveying the mission of moderate and peace loving Islam to all corners of the world. One such project that has tangibly come to fruition is Al Qasimia University; it is a colossal Islamic institution bound to render education of Sharia disciplines, carried out by notable religious scholars attracted from various parts of the world. In accordance with the vision of HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH DR. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED ALQASIMI, this institution shall be a powerhouse of Sharia Sciences based upon moderation, academic excellence and sound pedagogic traditions.
Built upon a landscape of 2000 sq metres, the campus includes an imposing mosque, on Fatimid architectural pattern, with a capacity of 4000 worshippers at the same time. The mosque is a unique architectural attraction, of exceptional beauty and stateliness. Other conspicuous complexes at the main campus are the management headquarters, the drama stage and the main library.
A sizeable part of the buildings have been accomplished, with the exception of some finishing works at the stage and library, which are under way.
Al Qasimia University is an iconic and timely achievement of Sharjah, the 2014 Capital of Islamic Culture.
