His Excellency Dr. Rashad Salem, Vice Chancellor of Al Qasimia University, Al Sharjah, announced that the university is in the process of admitting a minimum of a hundred male and female students for its inaugural semester. In accordance with the directives of HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH DR. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED ALQASIMI, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Al Sharjah ande President of Al Qasimia University, the semester shall commence on the 15th of the current month. Registration of admitted students is already under way.
Dr. Rashad Salem made it clear that the university’s top priority shall be the quality, not the quantity, of students, in tandem with the University’s policy of generating graduates who shall uphold the principles of conciliatory, moderate, peaceable and all-embracing Islam. Such graduates shall set the appropriate example for the subsequent generations of students.
His Excellency uncovered the fact that the new batch of students is made up of more than twenty nationalities, from all over the world. They would consequently help disseminate the mission of moderate and conciliatory Islam across the globe.
It is to be noted that HIS HIGHNESS SHEIKH DR. SULTAN BIN MOHAMMED ALQASIMI has issued the Emery Decree No:2, for the year 2013, regarding the establishment of an Islamic Arab University in the Emirate of Sharjah, by the name of “Al Qasimia University”.
The Decree stipulated:
“We, Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Al Sharjah Emirate, having reviewed the constitution of the UAE, Federal Law No: 4, for the year 1992, concerning the establishment and running of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Decision of the Ministry of Higher Education No:1, for the year 1992, regarding the procedures of licensing higher education institutions within the UAE, and in view of the public good, hereby acknowledge the establishment of an Islamic Arab University in the Emirate of Sharjah, to be called “Al Qasimia University”, as a nonprofit and independent academic institution, enjoying full financial and administrative independence, and enjoying its wholesome prerogatives as a body corporate that can dispense its affairs, and achieve its aims and objectives.
The Emery Decree No:2, for the year 2013, also stipulated that the English name for the University shall be: ”Al Qasimia University.” The university’s main campus shall be located in Al Sharjah, but it can initiate branches or offices elsewhere, inside or outside the UAE. A detailed law regarding the organization of the university: its colleges, sections and divisions, as well as all related issues, shall be issued subsequently.
